Sweden or US: Which extradition request for Assange goes first?

4:55 min

Will Wikileaks founder Julian Assange be extradited to Sweden to answer questions regarding an alleged rape - or does the hacking crime indictment in the US take precedent?

Radio Sweden spoke to legal expert Mark Klamberg about the road ahead in this long-running legal saga.

Klamberg is a professor of international law with Stockholm University, currently undertaking research in Oxford, UK. He says it's British law that decides which extradition request goes first in Assange's case.

Two relevant factors, according to Klamberg, are which extradition request came first, plus the severity of the crimes that he is accused of. And there are different ways courts can interpret this.
