Left Party leader Jonas Sjöstedt said he would bring down the government if it continued to push for certain labour reforms an interview with Swedish Radio at Almedalen.

The Left Party is against changes to the law of employment protection, known by its Swedish acronym LAS.

Sweden's Social Democrat and Green Party government had to agree to a political deal in order to win the backing of two center-right parties, the Liberals and the Centre Party, and be allowed to form a government.

Sjöstedt said his party holds the balance of power but added that the goal is not to replace the prime minister but rather to change the proposals put forward.
