Sweden makes first contact with ship captured in Iran

The captain onboard the Stena Impero, the Swedish tanker sailing under British flag captured by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz has made contact with the ship's owner.

The CEO of Stena Bulk, which owns the ship that's being held at the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas in the Arabian Gulf spoke to the captain onboard the Stena Impero who said that the crew is in good health but that they're under mental stress because of the situation.

The 23 men from the Philippines, Russia, Latvia and India that make up the crew have not been allowed off the ship and there has been no response to the request by Stena Bulk to be allowed to visit the crew onboard.

Britain has sent an additional warship to the region and is discussing a joint European effort that aims to secure safe passage of ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Sweden, however, says it has not sought active involvement in the initiative.
