Ylva Johansson proposed as Sweden's next EU Commissioner

0:53 min

Employment minister Ylva Johansson is set for a new job after prime minister Stefan Löfven nominated her as Sweden's next EU Commissioner.

Johansson, like every nominee from the individual member states, will be questioned by members of the EU Parliament who then vote on whether to accept the nominees before Parliament then votes on whether to accept the nominees as a team. The commissioners then need to be approved by the EU council, by a qualified majority.

Cecilia Malmström of the Centre party will leave the role in October after ten years in the job.
