The leader of the Moderate Party, Ulf Kristersson, wants the Sweden Democrats to be invited into cross-party talks on putting an end to gang violence.

Home Affairs minister Mikael Damberg responded to Kristersson's call for talks on Sunday by issuing an invite to the group leaders for all parliamentary parties, but excluded the Sweden Democrats.

Writing on social media, Kristersson, the leader of the largest party in opposition, criticised Damberg's exclusion of the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats.

The recent fatal shootings of two women, one of them murdered with a baby in her arms, has further focused attention on the serious crime that has grown in Sweden.

Damberg said on Sunday that he would organize the political meetings against gang-crime by "next week."
