Tyres screech as bus drivers battle to be named Sweden's best

4:51 min

More than a dozen bus drivers got behind the wheel this week to take part in a one-day competition that tests their road skills as well as seeks to attract more people to the profession.

The 2019 Swedish Bus Driving Championship challenged 16 finalists to take part in events such as emergency stop, first aid, and a fire extinguisher test. Denny Bauer, who drives the Swedish national football team around, was crowned champion after some "outstandingly good driving".

Esther Visser, from the World Road Transport Organisation, a permanent delegation to the EU, said she hoped the event could be replicated across Europe to help find new bus drivers.
