As prices drop, so does lifespan for household appliances

Appliances, like toasters and washing machines, cost about a fifth less in Sweden than they did 15 years ago. But along side that price drop, another issue has popped up.

Home and kitchen appliances now have a shorter lifespan. The limited use means more frustration for consumers and a higher environmental impact as well.

Swedish Radio spoke with an expert who has studied how the lifespans for household appliances have changed over the years as well as one of Sweden's largest manufacturers of household items.
