Tribunal Scrutinizes Asylum Policies

An unofficial tribunal on Sweden’s asylum policies opened in Stockholm Sunday.

The two day hearing is hosted by the Swedish chapter of International PEN, the freedom of speech watchdog.

Inspired by the 1967 Russell Tribunal into allegations of American human rights violations during the Vietnam War, the Stockholm meeting is hearing criticism that Sweden’s formerly generous asylum policies no longer follow international conventions.
