Despite political opposition, nuclear reactors still slated for closure

At the end of the year, the first of two reactors will be shut down at the Ringhals nuclear power plant, even though some politicians oppose the closure.

The Moderate, Liberal, Christian Democrat and Sweden Democrat parties worry the nation will face energy shortages if two of the four reactors are decommissioned.

But Lennart Söder, professor in electric power systems, sees no cause for worry and officials at the company running the plant say their decision is final.
