Gay Church Blessings Guaranteed

The leader of the Lutheran Church of Sweden says that homosexual couples can have their relationships blessed in their own churches, even if none of the ministers there are willing to carry out the ceremonies.

Last month the church’s General Synod approved a formal act of blessing during religious services for same sex couples. But many ministers have objected, saying that taking part in such ceremonies would force them to violate their consciences.

Now Archbishop K. G. Hammar promises that gay couples can have the blessings in their own churches, but the local pastors will have to solve the problem if all the ministers there refuse.

Of the Church of Sweden’s 5500 clerics, around 800 have signed an online petition protesting the blessing ceremonies.
