Swedish military helps combat coronavirus

The Swedish military is stepping in to support health services around the country to combat the corona virus.

A field hospital that can hold up to thirty intensive care beds with respirators is being sent to Uppsala from an army medical centre in Gothenburg over the weekend. The regional health authority in Västra Götaland, the south western area of Sweden, has also requested aid from the military and will receive a field hospital with twenty beds and up to 50 respirators.

However, although the military will set up and maintain the field hospitals, they will not carry out the intensive care and operate the respirators. Jesper Tengroth, press secretary for the Swedish Armed Forces, says they don't have the personnel to do that.
