In soccer, Siyabonga Nomvethe scored in the 26th minute to give Sweden’s Djurgården a 2-1 away win at Norway’s Lyn Thursday. The victory keeps Djurgården in first place in the Royal League’s Group 3, ahead of IFK Goteborg. Former two-time UEFA Cup champion Goteborg drew 3-3 at home against Denmark’s Aalborg in a game where all but one of the goals were scored by Swedes.
Meanwhile, Norway’s Lilleström beat the Swedish side Kalmar 2-0, to take the lead in Group 2.
The Royal League, named because Sweden, Norway, and Denmark are constitutional monarchies, involves the top four teams from each of the Scandinavian countries.
