EU Leaders Reject British Budget

Swedish Prime Minister Göran Persson was among European Union leaders urging Britain Thursday to give up more if it expects to reach agreement on a new EU budget.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair hosted Persson and five other EU prime ministers Thursday and is meeting their counterparts from three more countries Friday. After their talks, Persson said the current British blueprint is not enough, but he expressed confidence a deal can be reached.

Under the current British proposal, Sweden would become the EU’s biggest contributor per capita.
