2005 Record Year for Tourism

This looks to be a record year for the Swedish tourist industry.

Guest stays in hotel, hostels, and vacation cottages are up 4 percent, and campsites are reporting a 5 percent increase so far during 2005. The number of visitors by sea has increased even more, with a 13 percent rise in overnight stays in ports.

According to the Swedish central bank, consumption by foreign tourists in this country went up during the first nine months of the year by 22 percent.

The biggest increases have been in tourists from Germany, Finland, Spain, and the United States.
