Macedonian EU Membership

Visiting Macedonian Prime Minister Vlado Buckovski says he thinks his country will be ready to join the European Union early in the next decade.

After meeting with his Swedish counterpart Göran Persson Tuesday, Buckosky said EU concerns about enlargement should not affect Macedonia.

The former Yugoslav republic was accepted as a candidate last week, but its entry was linked to a debate about the EU’s ability to absorb more relatively poor newcomers.
