Sweden celebrates the Rock Bears

Published måndag 16 januari 2006 kl 12.08

One of Sweden’s top music award shows, the Rock Bears, saw Swedes with immigrant backgrounds winning some of the top prizes.

Laleh Pourkarim won best female artists as well as best new act, while Darin took best male artist honors.

Other big winners at the Sunday night gala:  Bodies Without Organs were named Group of the Year, while England’s James Blunt took Song of the Year honors for ‘Your Beautiful’.  Blunt was also named Best Foreign Artist, winning out over such industry heavyweights as Madonna and Robbie Williams.

The Rock Bears are sponsored by the evening tabloid Aftonbladet.  A record nearly 2 million readers voted for this year’s awards.
