Genetic Program for Pain Cells Uncovered

Swedish scientists have succeeded in describing the genetic program that controls the creation of pain cells.

Writing in the journal “Nature Neurosciences”, researchers from Stockholm’s Karolinska Institute, together with colleagues abroad, say this is the first time anyone has described how sensory nerve cells are created.

Professor Patrik Ernfors tells the Swedish news agency TT that the discovery means better opportunities to understand the source of chronic pain, and to create better pain-killing medicines.
