A Thai airliner on the runway at Arlanda airport

Plane Returns with Drunken Passenger

A drunken Swedish passenger forced a commercial airliner to return to Stockholm Saturday, just 30 minutes after it took off.

The Thai Airways flight was on its way to Bangkok when the passenger became unruly. Cabin crew and passengers managed to overpower the 44 year old, but the pilot decided to return to Stockholm’s Arlanda airport.

According to the newspaper ”Expressen” the man was on his way to his wedding.

The flight left again five hours later. No one was injured during the incident.

Meanwhile, the Scandinavian Airlines System said Monday it has cancelled all flights from Copenhagen after its pilots went on strike and some flights in Norway because many pilots were sick.

SAS said flights to Copenhagen were facing delays, while the airline had also been forced to cancel more than 50 flights at its SAS Braathens unit in Norway due to a high number of pilots reporting sick.
