Eriksson Leaves England Coaching Job

Sven-Göran Eriksson is to leave his post as England soccer manager after the World Cup finals in Germany later this year.

Eriksson’s contract does not expire until 2008.

The announcement from the Football Association comes after a tabloid newspaper reporter met the Swede, pretending to be a rich Arab oil sheik interested in buying an English club. The “News of the World” claims that Eriksson was interested in a new job, and said some British club managers were putting money into their own pockets.

The Swede announced Friday he will be taking legal action against the tabloid for “breach of confidence”.
