SÄPO head Klas Bergenstrand

Police Spies in Schools?

The security service of the Swedish police, SÄPO, is expanding its network of informants.

The agency’s head, Klas Bergenstrand, tells the newspaper “Sydsvenska Dagbladet” that they need tipsters in schools, welfare agencies, and non-government organizations.

This, the security police chief says is in order to find Moslem extremists trying to recruit terrorists. Bergenstrand says SÄPO should follow the British example after last year’s London bombings.

Criticism of the plan has come from teachers’ unions, the head of the Social Welfare Board, and the Left and Green parties.
