Parliament May Review Sky and CNN Tsunami Video

Published onsdag 25 januari 2006 kl 11.30
Persson: What did he watch and when did he watch it?

Sweden’s center-right opposition parties want the parliamentary Committee on the Constitution to review coverage of the Asian tsunami disaster from Sky News and CNN.

The Swedish government has been widely criticized for its slow response to the disaster, which claimed the lives of more than 500 Swedish holiday-makers in the region. Prime Minister Göran Persson says his initial information about the tsunami came from the international news channels, and his impression was that not many Swedes were involved.

The parliamentary committee has not decided yet whether to ask Sky and CNN for video, and is trying to determine exactly which broadcasts the prime minister watched.
