The al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, a violent group linked to the Fatah party, handed out leaflets giving Scandinavians 72 hours to leave the area. Islamic Jihad made a similar demand, with a 48 hour deadline.
They are reacting to the publication in Danish and Norwegian newspapers of a cartoon showing the Prophet Mohammed wearing a turban shaped as a bomb with a burning fuse. The cartoon has also led to flag burnings and boycotts of Danish products through-out the Moslem world.
After Libya closed its embassy in Copenhagen in protest, Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen said Sunday his government could not act against satirical cartoons.
