Call to Remember Neglected Tropical Diseases

Published tisdag 31 januari 2006 kl 12.00
Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the United Nations Millennium Project, took part in the conference

Here in Stockholm Monday, international health and aid experts said the fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in Africa needs to be broadened to battle other tropical diseases.

The assessment came at a conference under the auspices of the United Nations Millennium Project and the Karolinska Institute.

Experts said so-called neglected tropical diseases such as schistosomiasis and hookworm not only cause thousands of deaths on their own, but also undermine the effectiveness of international efforts against AIDS, TB, and malaria.
