Swedish Sex Education Reform Proposed

Sweden became renowned - or some would say infamous - for its 1955 introduction of compulsory sex education in schools - But now the country’s education authorities want to scrap sex education as its own subject in high schools.

The proposal would see sexual education blended into the other six compulsory subjects for teenagers at high school.

According to the school authority - although sex education is a subject that schools are under obligation to teach - it’s being neglected in a large number schools.

By combining sex education into the curriculum of the other compulsory subjects - the authority hopes to ensure that children are taught.

The move is raising eyebrows. Just last year, Sweden celebrated 50 years of compulsory sex education in schools
