Nordic Troops Under Attack

Soldiers in the Nordic peacekeeping force in Afghanistan, including a Swedish observation group, have come under attack by hundreds of demonstrators in fresh rioting over the Prophet Mohammed cartoons.

A British led rapid reaction force, also including Swedish troops, was sent to secure the airfield near the town , which is in the North West of Afghanistan.The rioters, believed to be carrying grenades, tried to storm the base , which contains 53 soldiers, the majority from Norway. Swedish General Jan Jonsson told reporters that the Observation group, including five to six Swedes, were at the camp during the incident. The ISAF troops were forced to warning shots and tear gas as the rioters tried to attack the base. Several demonstrators are believed to have been killed.
