Replacing Landlines with Cellphones

Telia Sonera has begun working with mobile phone maker Nokia and Cisco Systems on replacing fast landlines with cellphones.

Plans call for consumers to use only their mobile phones, which at home or in offices would connect over wireless networks and the Internet. Telia, which is Sweden’s largest telephone service provider, says surveys show 40 percent of Swedish companies want to invest in new telephone solutions.

Swedish “Internet World” reports that Telia has reached agreement with Microsoft to make MSN Messenger and Hotmail available to cellphone users.

Meanwhile, “Internet World” also writes that online telephone service Skype is working with 3G operator Three to put Skype’s Internet phone access on mobile handsets here.
