Russian Man Charged with Spying

Published fredag 17 februari 2006 kl 10.53

A Swedish court has charged a Russian man in his 30’s with spying for a foreign power.

The suspect was arrested on Wednesday by Sweden’s intelligence agency Säpo, in the university town of Uppsala (just north of Stockholm) on suspicion of carrying out ”espionage activities” in early 2005.

Few details have emerged on the charges, but Chief Prosecutor Tomas Lindstrand was quoted by Swedish Radio as saying that the man’s activities had caused damage to the country’s armed forces, affecting Sweden’s national security.
