Sweden’s Enjoys Population Surge

Sweden’s population is growing at a faster rate than at any other time during the last 12 years.

Figures from ”Statistics Sweden” show that for the first three months of this year, the number of people living here increased by 19,297. The main reason is a surge in immigration due to the temporary asylum regulations introduced last year.

Statistics Sweden says not since 1994 when a wave of refugees came from the wartorn balkans has Sweden’s population increased so rapidly.

Most people came from Iraq, Somalia, and Serbia and Montenegro. Other factors behind the high increase are a 6% decline in emigration, a 6% increase in births and a 7% fall in deaths.
