Pakistan to Buy Swedish AWACS

Pakistan’s cabinet has approved plans to buy an Airborne Warning and Control System from Sweden.

The deal with the Saab and Ericsson companies is said to be worth one billion dollars. Saab will provide the Saab 2000 turboprop aircraft and Ericsson the airborne radar.

The AWACS purchase is seen as a bid by Pakistan to keep up with a similar deal made by India two years ago.
