Munch Theft Likely Ordered

The Swedish police say last week’s theft here of a valuable work by Norwegian painter Edvard Munch was liked ordered by a black-market dealer in Europe.

The wood engraving “Toward the Forest 2” was stolen from a manor in southern Sweden late Tuesday, when thieves broke into the summer home of a Norwegian ship owner. The engraving has been valued at around 138,000 dollars.

Police say several other valuable paintings were left untouched, which indicates that someone who knew of the Munch had ordered it stolen.
