Church Pilots Collection-o-mat

A lack of change won’t work as an excuse for some Swedish church-goers not to give to the collection plate a new automatic donation machine is being installed.

The technology is being piloted at the Saint Maria church in the town of Helsingborg on Sweden’s southwest coast. The Lutheran Church of Sweden says it hopes by making it easier for people to give money at any time, revenues will increase, even as the number of worshippers goes down.

It’s thought the next step could be donating via text messages.
