Minister’s Surprise Visit to Afghanistan

Swedish Defence Minister Leni Björklund is making an unannounced visit to Afghanistan.

She’s visiting the Swedish forces taking part in the International Security Assistance Force in Mazar-i-Sharif in the northern part of the country. The Defence Minister took part in celebrations of Sweden’s national day Tuesday at Camp Northern Lights.

Around 250 Swedish soldiers are taking part in the NATO-led international peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan, and in March took over responsibility for the IASF forces in the north.
