Police close The Pirate Bay

Reopened Pirate Bay Doubles Hits

The newspaper “Dagens Nyheter” says that since its return to the Internet, the Pirate Bay file-sharing website has doubled the number of visitors.

Swedish police closed the site during several raids on May 31st. The Pirate Bay reopened three days later from servers in the Netherlands. Figures released by Alexa.com, an American-based Internet monitoring company, show that hits on the site have doubled since it reopened.

Following the raids, and protests from mostly young people, several Swedish political parties have said they could consider amending the law against downloading copyright material from the Internet.
