Former Housing Minister Accused Of Hypocrisy Over Flat

A former Social Democratic housing minister is being accused of hypocrisy for buying his rented apartment.

Lars - Erik Lövden had followed other Social Democrats in standing against rental apartments being turned into tenant-owned flats.

Those who rent flats in buildings turned into right to buy apartments are offered their flat at a cheaper rate.

Lövden is buying his rented apartment in the exclusive Östermalm area of Stockholm for a figure nearly half its estimated worth. He hasn’t lived there since 2003.

Lövden said in a statement that he wasn’t receiving any special treatment as all other tenants in the building had been offered the same deal.
