Stockholm road toll trial over today

Some Stockholmers might be breathing sighs of relief today as the city road toll trial draws to an end, but that relief may be temporary.

Stockholm introduced trial road tolls for motorists coming in and out of the city at the beginning of the year, with the goal of reducing inner-city traffic by 10 to 15 percent.  That goal was exceeded, with traffic having decreased on average 20 to 25 percent and the use of public transport having increased nearly 5 percent.  Now the question of whether or not to make the tolls permanent will be put to voters when they head to the polls September 17th.
