Calls for a better deal for Swedish tourism industry staff

Sweden’s booming tourism industry is being accused of taking advantage of some of its workers.

Many of those who work in hotels and restaurants are having to put up with uncertain conditions and low wages according to union officials.

And it is claimed that people are being exploited by being asked to work for free during ”trial periods”, although employers have no intention of taking them on.

A spokesman for the Association of Swedish Hotel and Restuarant Owners says its members do not get people to work for free, and says low profitability within the industry is why wages are low.
