Heart patients dying while in queues for treatment

It is being claimed more people with heart-problems in Stockholm are dying as they wait for operations.

In the first six months of this year, eleven people have died while in long queues at the city’s large Karolinska Hospital.

The number waiting for treatment there has gone up from 180 patients to 250 in a year. Staff at the hospital are warning they have a lack of resources, they are understaffed, and there are not enough beds, although the authority bosses deny this.

The situation is said to have been eased by around 60 heart patients using their own initiative, and getting treatment in the nearby city of Uppsala instead of waiting in the capital
