Soccer Loss Good News for TV Buyers

The newspaper “Aftonbladet” reports that following Sweden’s abrupt departure from the soccer World Cup, the price of flat TV sets here has plummeted.

Most of the consumer electronics chains seem to have dropped their prices by SEK 2000  (around USD 270), but in one case a top of the line 37 inch HD ready flat screen TV now costs SEK 7000 less, almost USD 1000!

On the other hand, according to IT Research, sales of flat screen TV’s set records here even before the current sale. Driven by advertising campaigns for digital television, not least using the World Cup as a selling point, during the first quarter sales reached nearly 100,000 units. That’s 285 percent of the figure from the same period last year.

IT Research predicts that the market grew by another 243 percent during the second quarter. The new sale on flat screens should fuel demand even more.
