This week’s Essential Mix presents two blockbuster sets from Northern Ireland’s biggest dance festival, Planet Love: Above & Beyond, our previous Essential Mix Of The Year winners and Marcus Schulz, one of America’s most popular big room DJs.

Above & Beyond AKA Jono Grant, Tony McGuiness and Paavo Siljamäki first met at the University of Westminster and set up the Anjunabeats label which soon boasted a following from high-profile superstar DJs, such as Pete Tong, Paul Oakenfold and Paul Van Dyk. After many remixes for other artists, the first Above & Beyond self-composed single, ‘Far from in Love’, was released in 2002 to widespread critical acclaim. Featuring the vocals of trance singer Kate Cameron, the track successfully fused Cameron’s vocals with Above & Beyond’s distinct progressive sound to become a true dance anthem.

Currently ranked #19 in the DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs list, Marcus Schulz is truly a global phenomenon. Born in Germany, Markus emigrated to the United States when he was 13. In his late teens he encountered his first experience of dance music from which he hasn’t looked back since. In this week’s Essential Mix, Schulz displays the bounty of his experience and demonstrates why he is so highly regarded by so many around the world.
