THE ROYAL SWEDISH ORCHESTRA

The orchestra of the Royal Opera is one of the oldest still active orchestras in the world. The orchestra expects its dates back to 1526 when the royal musicians for the first time were mentioned in the royal housekeepings accounts of Gustaf Wasa. In 1773 the orchestra became the first complete Swedish orchestra. During a long time the Royal Court Orchestra were directly linked to the royal court in Stockholm. Today the orchestra consists of 107 musicians.
