Baltic Sea Festival 2017

The fifteenth Baltic Sea Festival premiered on Monday at the Royal Opera with a strong and moving performance of Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex directed by Peter Sellars and conducted with Esa-Pekka Salonen. This years' festival highlights Finland and the centenary of 1917. The Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra graces the festival as well as a string of renowned conductors, such as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Susanna Mälkki and Paavo Järvi. The Marinskij Theatre orchestra, led by Valery Gergiev, interprets Wagner’s Parsifal and The Rhinegold. A newly commissioned work by Martin Smolka sparks-off the ten-year jubilee for conductor Peter Dijkstra together with The Swedish Radio Choir. The festival week ends on a high note with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra led by Daniel Harding.
