Are Swedish universities going downhill?

29 min

A debate over the state and future of academia is raging in Sweden after one professor complained that higher education is in shambles.

The university is no longer a place for enlightenment. Students have too much power and politicians and administrators favour quantity over quality.

That’s one side of an argument that's been raging in Swedish academia and beyond for some days now. It all started with an opinion piece that opened the floodgates, with academics, students and politicians weighing in.

So, are universities going downhill?

Radio Sweden puts the question to student union reps, a professor and a group of exchange students to find out what those inside the ivory tower are thinking.
