"This is what I have dreamt about" Kalla told TV3. "I had a good position and good skiing in both classic and free. I tried to stay ahead as much as possible, but still save as much energy as possible," said the silver medal winner, who will be hoping to add to her tally in the other disciplines.
Asked to compare her silver to the Olympics gold she won in the 10 km free in Vancouver, Kalla said:"This is completely different, it was a gold there, this is a silver, but at the same time, I have never been on the podium in the skiathlon before."
Marit Björgen's triumph was tempered by the news of the death of the brother of one of her Norwegian teammates. It was announced on Saturday that the brother of Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen had died on the day of the Sochi Winter Games opening ceremony. "It was hard to focus on the race," Björgen told a news conference.
