Analyst Leif-Olov Wallin at the technology research firm Gartner says he's surprised Amazon are choosing to establish the data centers outside Stockholm, rather than in the northern parts of Sweden.

Amazon is building three new data centers outside Stockholm, including in Katrineholm.

The centers, which could be up and running as early as next year, will serve as cloud storage facilities for customers of Amazon’s Web Services unit.

It will be the tenth cluster of cloud storing facilities that Amazon sets up in Europe, and the first in Scandinavia.

When Facebook came to Sweden they put their data center in the far north, to take advantage of low costs and natural cooling.
