Sweden insists on humanitarian support after liberation of Mosul

Sweden's foreign minister says there must be preparation for what happens after the re-taking of Mosul from the so-called Islamic State.

"It is always important to show consideration for the civilian population," says foreign minister Margot Wallström, of the Social Democrat party.

She says the Iraqi army and French and American special forces have tried to warn the population before the long-awaited attack to capture the city of Mosul in northern Iraq, but a plan for the aftermath is needed.

"This is something that we have insisted on for a long time. There must be preparation for what happens afterwards, civilian mechanisms to deal with crisis have to be built up, and also humanitarian help to the civilian population afterwards," says Margot Wallström to Swedish Radio.
