Sweden's Foreign Ministry told Radio Sweden that although the Nordic country is working with the UN nothing has been confirmed regarding peace talks for Yemen.

"No, actually I can't confirm if or when it will happen, but what I can say is that we are preparing," Patric Nilsson, a ministry spokesman said on Thursday afternoon.

Britain's ambassador to Yemen wrote on Twitter on Thursday that U.N.-sponsored peace talks for Yemen would happen in Sweden next week. United States Defence Secretary Jim Mattis made a similar statement last week.

Yemen has been devastated by more than three years of armed conflict with 8.4 million people there on the brink of starvation. And the UN is trying to reconvene talks between the Saudi-backed government and  Iranian-aligned Houthi groups after previous talks failed in September.
